  Definition:  

to experience money troubles;
to be at low-water mark

  Example:  

Он проиграл всё свое состояние и сейчас сидит на мели.

He has thrown all his money away in gambling and now he is pressed for money.

 

Куры не клюют
(koori nee kleeyoot)

  Definition:  


very many/much
(usually about money)

  Example:  

-- Мне неловко пить за ваш счет.

-- I don't like taking this drink from you.
-- Don't worry, guy! I've got money to burn.
 

Жить на широкую ногу
(zhit' nah shirokooyoo nogoo)

  Definition:  

to live in grand style

  Example:  

Он увидел, что его отец живёт на широкую ногу, сделавшись хозяином самой престижной в городе гостиницы.

He found his father living in style as the proprietor of the most prestigious hotel in the city.
