Our teaching staff

Teachers of Russian hired by our school are real professionals with extensive experience in teaching Russian to foreign students, people with fantasy and a good sense of humor. The teaching staff and their experience working at such largest city's educational centers as the State Kaliningrad University and the State Kaliningrad Technical University make a great contribution and an invaluable asset to our School.

Fifteen Russian language teachers collaborate currently with the School, some of them on a permanent basis and some part-time. The teaching staff is represented by the teachers of Russian as a Foreign Language from Kaliningrad Universities. We have also Russian language teachers from the best Kaliningrad's Lyceums and High Schools.

Teaching materials

All teaching materials, i.e. textbooks, workbooks, audiotapes, handouts, etc., are included into the course fee. Tuition at "Privet!" is based on the study kit "Russian Express" by Svetlana Khachatourova, the Moscow Linguistic Centre. This courseware has already been in use by Russian teachers for more than 10 years and its content is being constantly improved.

"Russian Express" I and II textbooks were developed within the frames of LINGVAPAX project under the guidance of UNESCO. The textbooks are widely used by many universities in Europe, Asia, Africa, North and South America. In the course of tuition, students develop not only their linguistic habits and skills, but also boost their creativity and ability to fully and accurately express their point of view in Russian. A special focus is given to students' introduction to the Russian way of living and customs as well as to the Russian cultural wealth. The core idea of this teaching material is to help learn Russian, enabling the students find linguistic solutions to every day life situations. During the lessons students will have an opportunity to compare life styles in Russia and in their home country as well as manners, traditions and cost of living. Role-plays are given special attention. The course is flexible enough to let people with various learning patterns achieve the best results in mastering Russian.

"Russian Express" I consists of introductory phonetics, 24 units, lexical and grammatical exercises. The textbook is supplemented by a workbook and two audiotapes. This courseware is also available for English-speaking, German-speaking and French-speaking students.

"Russian Express" II includes 11 units containing more in-depth information comparing to "Russian Express" I. It's a course of Russian for intermediate students. The textbook is provided with lexical and grammatical material that will help prepare for and successfully pass the State Test of Russian as a Foreign Language (1st Certificate level - Basic Russian). Additionally, the textbook contains the teaching material for the 2nd Certificate level. At the end of the book you will find standard tests for the 1st Certificate level. "Russian Express" II is supplemented by an audiotape for listening and practicing.

Teaching process

The team of "Privet!" make a strong emphasis on maximum attention to individual needs of every student. We will take into account all your wishes and preferences regarding the course content as well as accommodation, duration of the course, excursions, cultural programs, travel arrangements and so on. Please contact us and learn to speak Russian in accordance with your personal needs and preferences!

On the first day of the course you will assess your language level and point out the gaps in your knowledge. Your Russian training course will be adapted to your specific needs, especially if you choose an individual and a mini-group course.

Define your level:

• ADVANCED: You use Russian in a wide range of situations. You can devote your time to expanding you active vocabulary with specific and professional terminology as per your needs. Improve your conversational skills, learn new speech patterns, read Russian books in original!
• UPPER INTERMEDIATE: Your Russian is fluent enough, but there's still little confidence in your skills. You will learn how to conduct discussions and negotiations in Russian. Work on complex grammar aspects, enrich your vocabulary and improve your speech accuracy!
• INTERMEDIATE: You are able to make everyday conversations. You will develop your fluency, i.e. you will speak quicker and more accurate. Work on your grammar and enlarge your word-stock!
• LOWER INTERMEDIATE: You understand Russian in basic situations, but you are restricted in expressing your own thoughts. You have fair knowledge of Russian necessary to communicate in everyday life. You want to work on grammar, vocabulary and develop your understanding of oral speech.
• BEGINNER'S: You have a small stock of vocabulary, communication skills, and grammatical structures. You will no longer be a beginner by the time of your departure from Kaliningrad!
• ABSOLUTE BEGINNER'S: You know just a few words. For example, the word 'privet'!

An academic hour lasts 45 minutes. Standard course classes usually take place in the mornings; individual lessons are scheduled according to your wishes. The School retains its right to cancel classes on Russian national holidays. In this case, these teaching hours will be postponed until the next day after a holiday and appended to a normal schedule or will be offered a day prior to a holiday.

Individual classes are usually conducted either at a student's place or at the teacher's. If you choose accommodation in a guesthouse, we can always pick guesthouses for you with nice study-rooms. Mini-group courses take place in specially equipped facilities in the centre of the city.

Mini-group courses usually start on Monday. That is why it is better if you arrive on Sunday, so that we can smoothly arrange your lodging and registration, etc. On your arrival, we will take you to your place of residence. Your course will start on Monday. Individual courses may start on any day of the week.
